ahhh mate the trials & tribulations of a long haul truckie, somehow without them we would not find what we have gotten so used to on the supermarket shelfs,in the outback...yet the first ones to rise to the occasion of delivery & service to outback communitys without a whine, maybe a few beers....ahh keep up the great job, blokes & shielas driving those big rigs, take great care on the roads, for the perils of bad drivers in cars are the devils in our whining society of road users....

Welcome to the Dark Side, it won't take you long to get used to extra room - I know I would really miss my Stratosphere bunk on my Constellation if I downsized.

Tell you what, Im 20 year old Female, and have always loved old Holdens. I have a very straight and very original 1973 Belmont HQ ute, 1973 model with a 173 red motor, 3 speed column shift, bench seat etc..

I love Benny as its always been affectionately known to pieces, and wil never ever part with it. Alot of my mates dont understand the character in these old girls and dont realise how diferent it and much more enjoyable it makes driving. And yes a little interesting at times! haha.. has been more than once Iv curse under my breath and gotten cranky when things (very rarely) go wrong and I wonder why couldnt I have been a normal 20 year old chick and gotten a normal car like a Hyundai Getz or something haha. But I've had Benny and been driving it for last 3 or 4 years or so, and no word of a lie, still makes me smile every time I start it..I dont get that with the new cars I've driven around. To me, they are just a vessel to get you from A to B. Nothing more nothing less.. My car on the other hand in a weird way has become like an old friend that I enjoy seeing every day, and I look for excuses to drive places just because of how great it is to drive the old girl. I get a real buzz from it. Not to mention the double glances at the lights etc when people check out the mint old Holden then see a young chick driving it haha :P

I love all the things about it, no aircon, no power steering etc. Doesnt bother me at all. I just love the old girl unbiast, and its correct in that article, from driving my old girl around all the time, I have become a much better driver than my peers, (even the boys!) and can reverse her into any carspace in a crowded carpark, get pretty good performance from knowing how to drive 'properly' and also better mileage just from drivng it with that in mind.. And then having to know whats going on under the bonnet is another story!! :)

I wish more people my age got to learn and experience this kind of thing, kind of sad really...

G,Day Mat.
I'm new to your site and already you have taken me through so many emotions reading your posts. Its graet to hear such sensible chit chat from people in the same walk of life. As for the relationship woes mate treat it like those dusty unsealed roads, slow down a little, dodge the bumps as best you can but keep moving forward, it gets better further on. Stay safe and remember to keep left. Cheers Jase.
